Distribution Line Design

Engineering overhead and underground distribution systems that strengthen reliability and support growing community needs.

Ampirical provides distribution engineering for overhead and underground systems that support growth, reliability, modernization, and long‑term system planning. Our team works directly within utility standards and understands how distribution designs must align with operations, maintenance practices, and safety requirements.

We begin with scoping, route evaluation, field assessments, and load or feeder studies to establish a clear design basis. Our engineers develop conceptual options, evaluate pole conditions, analyze protection needs, and confirm clearance requirements. As projects move into detailed design, we use PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE, and Pole Foreman to model structures, verify loading, calculate sag and tension, and prepare construction‑ready drawings, staking sheets, and material lists. For underground systems, we analyze cable pulls, duct bank configurations, and vault arrangements to ensure constructability and maintainability.

Distribution Line Design Capabilities

Utilities rely on Ampirical for designs that can be built without redesign in the field. Our familiarity with permitting processes, DOT coordination, RUS requirements, and utility record systems helps keep projects on track. We frequently support feeder extensions, pole replacements, conductor upgrades, underground conversions, subdivision development, commercial service additions, and DOT relocation projects. Whether supporting broad system upgrades or specific capital projects, our designs emphasize clarity, constructability, and long‑term reliability.

Our work is supported by modern modeling tools, GIS integration, Maximo estimating, NJUNS practices for joint‑use coordination, and field‑informed design standards. This structure helps utilities maintain consistency in their system records and ensure accurate construction outcomes.
