Covington, LA – Ampirical Solutions, LLC (“Ampirical” or the “Company”), a leading provider of engineering services and software for the power end-market, has acquired Cappstone Energy Group (Cappstone), a respected utility engineering company known for its expertise in distribution system planning, GIS development, and line design.
The acquisition marks a strategic expansion of Ampirical’s capabilities, bringing together two organizations with complementary strengths and a shared commitment to helping utilities plan, build, and maintain reliable, future-ready infrastructure. Together, the teams will deliver more integrated and responsive solutions—from early-stage modeling and inspections to long-term asset support.
Cappstone has built its reputation on delivering high-quality services such as distribution system long-range plans, RUS construction work plans, power system studies, GIS modeling, line design, permitting, and field inspections. These capabilities directly enhance Ampirical’s work in transmission and distribution engineering, substation design, SCADA integration, and protection and control systems.
“We are thrilled to join forces with the incredibly talented team at Ampirical,” said Brad Capps, CEO of Cappstone. “After meeting Ampirical’s leadership team and staff, we were surprised by the numerous similarities between our two companies. With a strong cultural alignment and a complementary set of services, this partnership allows us to expand our capabilities without sacrificing our deep commitment to employees and clients. We believe the combination of resources and expertise will create a unique powerhouse that is able to deliver exceptional results in our rapidly growing industry.”
The integration allows Ampirical to respond to growing industry demand with added scale and technical depth—particularly in areas where utilities are seeking more complete project support, from upfront system studies and data development to design coordination and construction management.
“Cappstone brings a level of detail and practical expertise that immediately strengthens our ability to serve utility clients across the board,” said Matthew Saacks, CEO of Ampirical. “This is a natural fit—our teams think alike, work alike, and care about the same things. We’re not just adding services; we’re building a more complete offering that reflects where the industry is headed.”
This acquisition also marks another key milestone in Ampirical’s continued growth following SkyKnight Capital’s investment in the company. As a long-term strategic partner, SkyKnight has supported Ampirical’s efforts to expand its service offerings, invest in talent, and pursue strategic opportunities—like Cappstone—that align with its broader vision.
“Cappstone marks Ampirical’s largest acquisition to date, and at SkyKnight we are excited to continue supporting the company as it scales its offerings to provide a comprehensive service offering to utility clients,” said Victoria Potter, Principal at SkyKnight Capital. “We believe that key acquisitions such as Cappstone are critical in achieving that goal.”
Cappstone’s team will continue supporting ongoing projects and client engagements without interruption. Both companies are aligned in ensuring a seamless transition and maintaining the high level of service clients have come to expect.
